The pale yellow up north

The local station a bit shadowed, but with the roof illuminated by the strong sun light.

In danish, there is a special yellow color called “yellow of Skagen
Skagen is a danish town located in the northernmost part of Jutland
overlooking the waters of the Skagerrak and the Kattegat up north against Norway
the line between the 2 waters are just there in an invisible north-south line.

Skagen is a very popular area
many painters spend much time up there and some were/are permanent residents
it is the special light that inspires
throughout the day and throughout the year.

The distinctive yellow color of practically all buildings in the area
it’s a quite obvious characteristics of the area around Skagen
although the color has spread to other parts of the country too.

The color change in a fascinating way, depending on the effect of light.

The part of the town Skagen with the name Old Skagen
but still the same yellow color
photographed in the early morning light from southeast.

The yellow church in Skagen lighted by the late evening sun only.

It is also a very popular tourist resort
local people say jokingly
“In winter it’s Skagen but in the summer it’s Little Copenhagen or Little Amsterdam”
(because of the many vacationers from Copenhagen and the Netherlands)

This theme is really a “pale” travel theme
with inspiration from Ailsa’s excellent blog
take a look the challenge here “Where’s my backpack
this’s my version of the theme “Pale”.

If you talk with the locals up Skagen – so they mentioning people from Copenhagen as tourists, when they talk about norwegians they talk about their guests – that’s the reasom I didn’t mentioning norwegians together with people from Copenhagen… “lol” 🙂 🙂
