The Kaysersberg Castle
Kaysersberg lies north-west of Colmar, on the eastern slopes of the Vosges mountains
the name “Kayserberg” means “Emperor’s Mountain” in german.
Kaysersberg is considered one of the most beautiful cities on “The Alsace wine route”
and is one of the finest wine growing areas in Alsace
the first vines were brought here in the 16th century from Hungary
the wine production is still an very important aspect of the economy of the town today
wine produced from the Tokay variety is a local specialty.
The high fortress that dominates the city serves as a reminder
of both its earlier strategic importance and its part of a warlike past
the present idyllic atmosphere trying to heal the wounds successfully.
