Looking down at the Irish Sea.
Very often it’s hard for us humans to find out what is up and down
it isn’t many years ago that we thought the earth was flat as a pancake
at the time Christopher Columbus traveled to find a shorter sea route to India
there was several of his sailors, who were afraid to sail off the edge.
At present we are much wiser – especially if we have to evaluate it in our own words
that the earth is round and not flat can be difficult to see with our naked eyes
even when we are standing on a high cliff and looking out over the sea and down to a ship
anyway we are talking about ships either sail up or down the coast.
Looking down the river Rhine at the Lorelei – (Info Wikipedia).
About rivers and waterways we often use the term
to look up the river and looking down the river.
Just in terms of the river Rhine there is a bit of confusion
some say upriver when they think in the direction of the source
others say upriver when they think in the direction of the estuary into the North Sea
– so maybe we can’t say “down by the river” about the river Rhine..?

Thanks, my friend – really appreciate you like it… 🙂

“hahaha” 😉
Very interesting and funny about the River Rhine 🙂 As usually your photos are beautiful.. Bye
#.laura
Yeah, according to the myth that lures the Rhine mermaids the naive seamen with beautiful songs – or it is the sound of small waterfalls in connection with the river – who knows..? 🙂 🙂
Thanks, so glad you like this post – really appreciates… 🙂
That Lorelei rock is very intriguing … I would not mind visiting it some day. You are right about upwards/downwards confusion 😀
#.paula
Absolutly worth visiting – by boat… 🙂
Well, I did not plan to swim in the Rhine :D. Hmm, maybe I should?
The river Rhine isn’t always as clean as it could be – so take a boat, dear you… 🙂 😉
😀 Yes, sailor! 🙂
😉
My 6-yr-old has been learning his European geography (I now know the rivers, mountains, seas, and peninsulas!) I will be showing him the Rhine here, which he’s learned…. =)
#.holistic wayfarer
Yes it’s a part of european history and a much dreaded place for the ancient sailors who sailed on the Rhine… 🙂
Looking is what matters – not whether it is ‘up’ or ‘down’ . 🙂
#.the silver voice
You’re right it doesn’t matters – only if one should meet someone… 🙂
Looking at Loreley means going down for the sailor 🙂
#.saetzeundschaetze
Yes the old sailors feared the place… 🙂
Ich weiß nicht, was soll es bedeuten…:
Yeah this one I know from my childhood in Schleswig, our very old neighbor was always singing this song at the midsummer festival bonfire – just him, he had great voice… 🙂 🙂
Written by Heinrich Heine. 🙂
🙂
Lovely post, Drake! 🙂

#.madhu
Thanks and I appreciate very much I’m not the only one… 🙂 🙂
Darling Le Drake,
I’m sure for you, who has wings, “up and down” is an easy concept. 😉
Therefore, I’m going with your description of up river and down river and the beauty of the Lorelei as one looks down river. 🙂
Yet, I still can’t figure “uptown” and “downtown” so when Sherrie comes next week I’ll say drive me to this mural here or that graf there. Oh, I’m so excited to see her… well I’m dizzy with up and down (& wine)! _Resa xo
#.resa
Yeah sometimes ‘uptown’ versus ‘downtown’ give same kind of problems… 🙂
So it’s exciting to hear about you and Sherrie get uptown or downtown… 🙂 😉
I can hardly wait!!! 🙂 🙂 We’ll pant it red … both up and downtown. And of course she’ll be here to assist me in gowntown. “lol” 😎 😉
You have to rember capturing some photos… “lol lol” 🙂 🙂
We will capture as many pics as we can! 🙂 🙂 “lol”
Go for it… 🙂
She just got here!!!! 🙂 I’m so happy!
