Abandoned, but fascinating

Abandoned northern welsh slate industry
The Dinorwic Slate Quarry
when it was active, the world’s second largest
(the largest located not far from this, also in Wales)
at the same time fascinating and slightly creepy

Now moon-like crater area.

A workplace as created by Alfred Hitchcock or Stephen King ..?
of course it wasn’t, but the work hasn’t been without risk.

In addition to being museum
so there are also film footage and model shots
but I didn’t see any long-legged bikini babes.

Absolutly worth visiting place – National Slate Museum also called Welsh Slate Museum.

A part of the European Route of Industrial Heritage and of course National Museum Wales.

The time have made it unprofitable – even it looks very idyllic so it must have been a very hard workplace – even it abandoned so it still have a lot of charm… 🙂

  1. Abandoned but beautiful and fascinating. True, with a hinge of sadness but at the same time…a place with such breath-taking scenery around and…all the way in back in the past.
Must admit I am the most drawn to the second photo 🙂

  2. Great images, makes me want to go back there! I only saw it on very grey, wet days and in those days I quite often shot black and white, and looking at them now they are rather flat…

Thanks, really understands you do… 🙂

The slates itself are very dark and grey – the slate from Wales and Norway are while slates from other parts of the world are more brownish… 🙂

  3. It’s a very interesting post. If this abandoned quarry looks like the moon, I wonder what the Canadian Tar Sands will look like when man is done with them?
