An impressive container barge on the very trafficked european river Rhine.

The past is never where you think you left it
*Katherine – american journalist, essayist, short story writer and political activist*

The logistics and distribution has always been a huge challenge for us humans.
Very resource intensive with huge obstacles as unavoidable ingredient.
Therefore, the imagination never lacked to find detours that could minimize the hassle.
Waterways quickly became part of the solutions – with very flat-bottomed barges.
Rivers from the very big to very small, either rowed or on some fewer rivers with sails
on the smallest waterways were the barges pulled by either humans, oxen or horses.

Nowadays a lot easier, driven by engines.

  1. 🙂 I hope you have more container barges photos, as I was thinking of putting a container theme for one of the future challenges. Always a pleasure having you on board Drake 🙂
