Château du Haut Koenigsbourg, Alsace – herea part of the roof.
A famous castle about thousand year old.
The time leaves its traces, on old buildings the roofs most.
A close-up also says that this roof have a newer date..
Which doesn’t indicate poor workmanship at all.
Actually seen from a distance, it have an old time look.

I imagine that, from a distance, as you say, it looks just fine. Sometimes practicality has to take first place, but artistry along with it is always appreciated.
