Kissing under bridges, take care

Ponte dei Sospiri
“The Bridge of Sighs”
Venice Italy

Maybe the worlds most “dangerous” bridge ever..!

The bridge itself is safe enough – the bridge is escape secured and made of white limestone and has windows with stone bars – it passes over the Rio di Palazzo and connects the “new” prison to the interrogation rooms in the Doge’s Palace
it was designed by Antoni Contino
(whose uncle Antonio da Ponte had designed the Rialto Bridge in Venice)
the bridge was built in 1602.

So far so good.

But a local legend says that lovers will be granted eternal love and bliss
if they kisses while they are on a gondola at sunset under the Bridge Of Sighs.

So take care who you kiss under this bridge
or who you let kiss you.

Kiss only if you are absolutely sure, that you are kissing the only one.

  1. Personal reflection:
If a MAGIC passage under a bridge is needed for convincing us, that we are kissing the love of our lives, well, then we may not be with the right person after all.

    Looking very deep icon. 😀

  2. I love this post Drake. I never knew what the Bridge of Sighs was attached to. I never would have guessed a prison. And that is the setting for permanent romance. The thought of chains comes to mind. I will most certainly head your warning.

The comparison between prison and love, as it happens under The Bridge of Sighs is not quite fair for love – some chains are better than others… “lol” 😉

The sparse view from the bridge was the last glimpse of Venice, as the convicted had before they were taken to prison damp basements – the name of the bridge, “The Bridge of Sighs”, was invented by the english poet Lord Byron once at the beginning of the 19th century, when he imagined how the prisoners would sigh loudly over their last glimpse of the beautiful Venice through the bridge windows before they were taken down to their cells… 🙂

Venice is amazing and fascinating – definitely at least one visit worth – and then when we have been there so we would like to visit the city again… 🙂 😉
